Carla C. Rife
Carla believes that with the right guidance, navigating through the legal process can be a far less daunting endeavor. She knows that expert knowledge of the court system can help our clients make better decisions, both in the courtroom and in negotiations. Carla extends her expertise from her previous positions as a court employee to the representation of our clients.
For two years, Carla clerked for a judge at the Hennepin County Family Court. After that, she spent a term clerking for a judge at the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
During her time clerking in family court, Carla conducted hearings and drafted court orders in matters involving marital dissolution, custody, and paternity. Carla worked on cases regarding parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance, property division, emergency motions, third-party custody and visitation, contempt, and domestic abuse.
At the Minnesota Court of Appeals, Carla helped judges draft appellate opinions that hold persuasive legal authority in Minnesota law. This experience gave Carla a broad view of all types of legal issues affecting Minnesota families. Carla researched and drafted appellate opinions regarding family law topics like division of property and custody, in addition to topics in criminal law, harassment restraining orders, and child protection.
Carla moved to Minnesota in 2015 with her husband after they both graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Carla also received her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In her spare time, Carla enjoys going for long walks along Minnehaha Creek and listening to podcasts. She enjoys drawing and crafts of all kinds, especially crochet.
Carla was proud to serve Minnesota citizens as a court employee, and she is proud to continue to serve Minnesota families as an associate attorney with M. Sue Wilson Law Offices.
